TRADITIONAL WOODEN LONGBOW MAKINGTapping into the wisdom of our ancestors
>>> Awareness : Resilience : Focus <<<
2 days - 22nd - 23rd March2025
Make a Traditional Wooden Longbow with Archer, Yoga Teacher, & Holistic Life Coach Lars Richter. All experience levels welcome.
Lars is passionate about making traditional skills accessible to everyone, highlighting their practical applications in daily life. He sees the bow not just as a tool for sport or hunting, but as a powerful medium for increased focus, learning by doing and building resilience. Inspired by the 1930s classic *Zen in the Art of Archery*, Lars emphasizes that in archery, "the hitter and the hit are no longer two opposing objects, but are one reality." This concept resonates with the experience of being "in the zone" or achieving flow—a state where focus and mindfulness converge.
Workshop Overview:
This workshop offers a hands-on experience that transcends the mere act of making a longbow. Lars will guide participants to cultivate focus and resilience through practical engagement, encouraging them to observe their mind and energy flow. By reconnecting with themselves and grounding in the present moment, attendees will not only learn the art of longbow making but also embark on a transformative journey of self-discovery.
Lars's Background:
With over ten years of experience teaching longbow-making and workshop facilitation to both children and adults in Australia and beyond, Lars has helped many individuals create meaningful change in their lives. His work as a Compassionate Inquiry facilitator and Holistic Life Coach under Narrative Yoga complements his background in Yoga, Qi-Gong, which he has studied since 1996. Lars has taught Yoga and Meditation in Germany since 2001 and has led workshops internationally since 2010. He holds a diploma in Transpersonal Counselling and is a certified Results Coach, bringing a wealth of knowledge about wholesome living to his teaching.
Your Learning Experience:
By the end of this workshop, you will walk away with your wooden longbow and the skills to create more. You will learn how to craft a bowstring tailored to your bow, master the art of tillering—carefully shaping the wood to achieve optimal bend—and adjust your bow to suit your unique draw length and weight. This hands-on approach fosters resilience, as you face challenges and learn to adapt through the crafting process. After achieving functional completion, you'll finish your bow with fine sanding and oiling, ensuring both practicality and beauty.
Bonus:
On the afternoon of the second day, participants will delve into the Art of Archery. This session will introduce instinctive shooting methods and various release techniques. Archery serves as a powerful metaphor for life, teaching focus, patience, and the ability to overcome obstacles.
Join us for this unique workshop to engage in hands-on learning while enhancing your focus and building resilience through the art of traditional craftsmanship and archery.
“Thanks for a great weekend with the longbow making workshop. I appreciated the mix of longbow expertise with the more meditative elements and advice that could be applied to other areas of life. To paraphrase: Don’t get too hung up on the final product without enjoying the journey. You need to enjoy the journey. If you don’t enjoy the journey, you’re missing the point. It was a relaxing time and I’m proud of the work I completed. I would definitely recommend the longbow workshop to others.” David
“Just wanted to thank you again for such an awesome bow making weekend the other weekend. I’ve taken my bow out shooting since and I’m still so impressed with her. It’s an awesome feeling to know that I’m shooting with something I created myself and could make again too.” Jessie
“The longbow workshop in Trentham a couple of weeks ago was the best! My son and I enjoyed bonding time in the company of a friendly group of likeminded souls. Best of all, we made something together that we will cherish and look after for a lifetime…reminiscent of the toys and tools of my own childhood. A bonus is the time my son spends daily (!) honing his newly discovered archery skills."
"The longbow workshop was a beautiful and enduring experience for us both. Thanks Lars!” Michelle
