In this workshop, you’ll learn movement from an ancient Sri Lankan dance style called Kandyan Dance. We’ll begin with basic moves, explore animal representations through movement, and we’ll end with some high-energy Sri Lankan-modern fusion phrases.

About the teacher:
Emily is a bodyworker, embodiment educator and consultant. She specializes in social emotional development for teens and adults, using body-based mindfulness practices to help individuals build self-awareness, and manage stress and anxiety. She currently runs the Calm Space program at West Philadelphia High School, and leads body-based mindfulness workshops for educators in the Philadelphia area. She holds a Masters degree from the University of Pennsylvania whom she now partners with to teach embodiment in higher education. Emily is also a second generation Sri Lankan, who loves sharing her family’s culture. Having studied traditional Kandyan dance from Sri Lankan dance master, Peter Surasena, Emily continues sharing the practice in the US. Emily previously owned Empower Massage Therapy in Scarborough, Maine and was a proud member of Collective Motion Dance Company and the CMAC teaching staff.
