What does it mean for a neighbourhood to "change"? West Industrial sits where the edge of Saskatoon once was, with workers in the surrounding neighbourhoods of King George and Riversdale living in walking distance to their jobs. The neighbourhood still finds itself in a unique space between those two communities, even as cohousing and other developments have taken root. In the past decades, scrapyards have moved away, a rail spur along 17th Street has become a well-utilized multi-use pathway, and new spaces for the food bank and affordable housing are taking shape on former industrial land nearby. This one hour walk invites an exploration of these layers of history, use, and potential to better understand a neighbourhood that has never been just one thing.
