Inspired by the formal and emotional language of Tyeb Mehta, this workshop explores relief as a space between image and object, where surfaces hold both structure and expression. Drawing from Mehta’s approach to fragmentation, distortion, and simplified forms, participants will engage with how visual elements can be broken, reassembled, and translated into sculptural compositions.Focusing on the idea of compressed depth, the session invites participants to think of the surface as an active field where forms, textures, and narratives coexist. Through this exploration, everyday motifs such as figures, animals, or objects are reimagined into layered compositions that suggest both stillness and movement. The workshop concludes with the transformation of these surfaces into faux bronze finishes, adding a sense of material depth and permanence to the work.Designed for children and adults, the session encourages experimentation with form, surface, and abstraction, offering a tactile approach to understanding how images can extend beyond the flat planeWhile you’re here, we invite you to also explore KNMA’s ongoing exhibition TYEB MEHTA Bearing Weight (with the lightness of being)
