Somewhere between a spaghetti western soundtrack, a midnight surf session, and a psychedelic crime film nobody remembers making…You’ll find Trabants.
Straight outta Portland, Oregon, this instrumental surf-garage-psych outfit drifts into Pele Utu July 29th carrying fuzzed-out guitars, exotica rhythms, noir jazz shadows, and enough cinematic weirdness to make your cocktail taste haunted.
Imagine Dick Dale racing through a desert chase scene scored by Ennio Morricone, while Khruangbin, The Doors, and a stack of forgotten tiki lounge records quietly catch fire in the back seat.
That’s the neighborhood Trabants operates in.
Led by musical architect Eric Penna, the band twists together traditional surf, crime jazz, Pacific Island exotica, Memphis soul, Latin percussion, psychedelic garage rock, and space-age cool into something that feels less like a concert and more like stumbling into a lost 1966 movie soundtrack after too much rum.
One minute you’re sipping a Mai Tai under lantern light…
Next thing you know you’re mentally outrunning the law through neon-lit back alleys in a stolen convertible somewhere between Baja and the Twilight Zone.
Which honestly sounds like a pretty solid Wednesday.
July 29th. 8PM.
Trabants at Pele Utu.
Fuzzed-out paradise awaits.
