No composer comes out of nowhere: they all had examples, teachers, and colleagues. Telemann himself mentions that he took Lully and Campra as his models for instrumental suites. We add orchestral movements from an opera by the famous German opera composer Reinhard Keiser, who was strongly influenced by French models as well, and a sinfonia from a Vivaldi opera. No early 18 th century composer escaped from Vivaldi’s new and revolutionary style. In the second half of the concert, an Italianate flute concerto and a rather French-style suite by Telemann himself show how he combined this cosmopolitan training with more traditional German ingredients.🎶 On the program:
Lully | Suite from Acis et Galathée LW73
Campra | Intermezzo from Orfeo negli Inferni
Keiser | Suite from Der zugeschlossene Tempel des Janus
Vivaldi | Sinfonia from L’Incoronazione di Dario RV 719
Telemann | Flute concerto in D TWV 51:D1
Telemann | Suite in e TWV 55:e3
