About this Event
To mark the NFCF National Cemeteries Week (6 June to 14 June), the Friends of Greyfriars Kirkyard are offering two free tours of this historic burial ground. Opened as a cemetery in 1562, for over 300 years this was the City of Edinburgh’s principal place of burial. This tour explains the history, architecture, symbolism ,and social significance of the Kirkyard. Here, we have Scotland's finest collection of mural monuments to the dead which collectively serve as one of Edinburgh’s most significant museums, art galleries, libraries, and green spaces.
Although the tours are free of charge, optional donations to fund our activities will be warmly received.
The Friends of Greyfriars Kirkyard are a registered charity, SCO55242, that aims to support the understanding, appreciation, and conservation of this historic burial ground in the heart of Edinburgh. Find out more at fogk.org.
