About this Event
Explore Lower East Side climate and cultural solutions with a Green Map walking tour that culminates at the community celebration at the newly elevated East River Park. Starting at ABC No Rio, this tour takes place on the final day of both the Harvest Arts Festival, a 10-day celebration throughout LES community gardens, and NYC Climate Week. Please RSVP here.
Discover how both grassroots initiatives and innovative designs are helping reduce climate impacts while strengthening community bonds, like ABC No Rio’s new arts and activism space, an exciting Passive House building on the Green Map, designed by Paul Castrucci Architect, set to open next year*. Then, we’ll take a scenic mile-long walk that highlights real-life mitigation and adaptation efforts, layered with inspiring stories of resilience, creativity, and environmental stewardship.
As we stroll through the southeastern tier of NYC’s Garden District, home to 55 vibrant community gardens, we’ll visit three of these unique volunteer-led green spaces. Our tour will pass through newly upgraded and flood-readied sites around the community and reflect on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
We’ll enter East River Park at Delancey Street’s east end, using the new pedestrian bridge. Together, we’ll explore the East Side Coastal Resilience project during the lively community celebration. The tour concludes at the freshly opened Amphitheater, where you can enjoy afternoon performances or continue south by visiting your choice of Corlears Park, Pier 42, or hop on the ferry. Later, head for the East Village to join LUNGS NYC for the Harvest Arts closing party (6 PM at Green Oasis Garden, 370 East 8th St).
* Our walking tour starts at noon, but if you would like to see inside ABC No Rio first, come at 11:15am - the first 9 people who arrive then can don a hardhat and have a look!
Come be part of this dynamic experience where nature, culture, and climate action come together — all on the vibrant Lower East Side!
