Santa Margarita Water District (SMWD) is committed to enhancing local water reliability and reducing dependence on imported water through the development of sustainable and innovative water infrastructure. One of the District’s most impressive projects is the Trampas Canyon Reservoir & Dam, which plays a crucial role in storing recycled water.
The reservoir helps SMWD recycle nearly 100% of its wastewater. Before building this reservoir roughly 20% of the District’s recycled water went to the ocean because there was no storage. The reservoir may also one day provide the region with the opportunity to reuse the recycled water for drinking water.
