About this Event
Join OSU Forestry Extension, OSU Research Forests and NWTA for an education tour of active harvest operations on the Tualatin Mountain Research Forest.
Northwest Trail Alliance is excited to partner with Oregon State University for a unique, behind-the-scenes educational opportunity on recently acquired forest land.
This property, formerly owned by Weyerhaeuser, is now owned by OSU and managed as a Research Forest. For years, NWTA held a lease on this land and built a well-loved trail system that has become deeply valued by the local community. With this transition to public ownership, active forest management will look different — guided by research, long-term stewardship, and education.
OSU has proven to be a thoughtful and collaborative partner, and we’re excited to begin a series of educational opportunities starting with a guided Tour of Active Harvest Operations.
This tour will provide:
- Insight into how harvest operations function within a Research Forest
- A look at how land management decisions are made
- A better understanding of how recreation and forestry can coexist
- Opportunities to ask questions and build relationships with OSU staff
This is a great opportunity for trail stewards, riders, and community members who are invested in the future of this property.
Come prepared:
- Warm layers
- Rain jacket
- Closed toed shoes
- Water/Snacks/Lunch
- Hard Hats will be provided
