On 3 March 2026 (Tuesday), a total lunar eclipse will be visible from Penang.Unfortunately, we will only be able to observe the second half of the whole eclipse process, from a few minutes before the maximum eclipse until the end.
The full moon will rise at 7:27 pm, when it has already entered the total eclipse phase. The maximum eclipse will occur shortly after at 7:34 pm, and will end at 8:02 pm. The partial eclipse will end at 9:17 pm, while the penumbral eclipse will end at 10:22 pm.
The Astronomical Society of Penang will be conducting a public observation session from 6:45 pm onward at the Karpal Singh Drive (near the four pillars). We will set up a few telescopes for observation, and everyone is encouraged to bring your own telescope or binocular if you have one. Be there early as parking spaces are limited and also to make sure you don't miss the moment of the maximum eclipse!
