About this Event
We are teaming up with the National Trust for Scotland to offer a FREE weekend residential in the Torridon area on the weekend of the 22nd to the 24th of November. The weekend will involve a guided day hike on Saturday the 23rd, and two shorter half day hikes on Sunday the 24th. Accomodation and the mountain leader are included in the booking, and support with travel to the venue can be supported by Out and About in the Highlands.
If you live locally to the Torridon area, you can also join the hikes without booking on to the bunkhouse residential, by visitng the link here.
The bunkhouse will be available for check-in on Friday the 22nd from 5pm. This is self-catering accomodation with 3 shared, mixed-gendered bunkrooms, accomodating a total of 10 people. Please bring your own sleeping bag, and personal food for the weekend. Departure from Torridon will be late afternoon on Sunday.
The Saturday hike will aim to begin around 9am and will take around 5 hours to complete a 'there and back'. Please bring all of your own personal hiking equipment(see the kit list and indicate after registering if there is something you do not have). The Sunday will comprise of a shorter hike in the morning, and an optional afternoon walk, to be agreed as a group.
Ahead of the residential, you will be put in touch with the volunteer who is organising the weekend so that you can meet the group and discuss food, car-sharing and finalise plans for the hikes on each day.
This is for anyone who is aged 18 or over and identifies as a member of the LGBTIQ+ community living in the Highlands, Islands, and Moray.
Essential Kit List
(If you are missing something from tis list, you will have a chance to let us know at the end of the registration form)
- A Sleeping Bag
- Walking Boots
- Waterproof Jacket and Trousers
- Clothes that are comfortable for hiking in (no jeans)
- Extra warm clothes
- Warm Hat and Gloves
- A water bottle and plenty of food for the hike
- A day rucksack and rucksack liner (a plastic bag inside the rucksack works as a liner)
In additon to the essential list, please also bring your own food and personal items for the weekend and anything extra that will help keep you comfortable for the hikes (e.g walking poles). Some hiking equipment can also be borrowed from Aban or hired from Tiso Inverness.
