Inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the band Freestyle in 2015. Recognized for his project Two Turntables and a Saxophone by a ASCAPlus Award in 2006 and 2007. A graduate of Northern Kentucky University (B.M.) and Kent State University (M.M.). Joined the Instrumental program at Urbandale High School in 2017 directing concert band, jazz band, marching band and collaborating with the Vocal and Theatre programs.

Ben Mars is an Iowa-born songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known for his genre-fluid sound and introspective lyricism. Drawing from folk roots and electronic textures, his music creates space for both solitude and connection. Mars’s work explores memory, movement, and the wide-open quiet of the Midwest.
