One of our favourite nights is back at the Fox!Join us for an unmissable night of live reggae and dub as Tokyo Riddim Band returns to Fox & Firkin on Friday, November 29th, to celebrate the release of Time Capsule’s new compilation, “Tokyo Riddim Vol.2 1979-1986.”
This unique band features an all-star lineup of musicians: the legendary 🎹 Izumi “Mimi” Kobayashi on keys, renowned saxophonist 🎷 Megumi Mesaku (a.k.a. Miss Megoo), and the soulful vocalist 🎤 Ayana, joined by an incredible rhythm section of reggae drums, funky bass, and City Pop guitar all magically dubbed out on stage. Together, they create an electrifying blend of live dub and reggae grooves that captures the spirit of Tokyo’s rich musical culture, reimagined through a modern lens. Expect a cultural experience unlike any other as these talented artists merge their individual styles into one powerful, dub-driven performance.
To complement the band’s set, we’ve curated a lineup of DJs that perfectly aligns with the vibe of the night:
✨ Millie McKee — With a deep love for dub, reggae, and psychedelic grooves, Millie brings a unique energy to her sets that reflects her time in Bristol’s rich music scene and her connection to Tokyo’s culture from her childhood. Her impeccable taste and crate-digging skills will take you on a journey through her collection of rare gems and bass-heavy rhythms.
🎧 Harrison Guyett — A DJ who radiates charisma both on and off the decks, Harrison draws inspiration from the early days of acid house and London’s vibrant club culture. His selections move seamlessly through soul, Latin, dub, punk, and jazz dance—always focusing on tracks with substance, spirit, and a deep connection to dancefloor history. He knows how to set the vibe and keep it alive.
🎛️ Koichi Sakai — Formerly a cornerstone of East London’s party scene and now based in Tokyo, Koichi is back in the city to share his extensive knowledge and passion for music. For this special Tokyo Riddim Night, he’ll be spinning a City Pop selection, bringing his unmistakable touch and deep love for Japanese grooves to kick off the evening.
🔥 Rounding off the night is Kay Suzuki, the visionary behind Time Capsule and the driving force behind Tokyo Riddim Band. Kay’s closing set will bring the party to a high-energy conclusion, weaving together the threads of the night’s eclectic soundscapes into a final dub-infused journey.
🌴 Fox & Firkin’s garden will be open early, providing the perfect space to soak up the vibes before the music kicks off. It’s a fitting location too, as Tokyo Riddim Band recorded their first three singles at the legendary upstairs studio owned by Prince Fatty.
This event also marks the exclusive release of the special Obi version of “Tokyo Riddim Vol.2 1979-1986,” available only at the venue. Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering Tokyo Riddim Band for the first time, this night promises an unforgettable journey through reggae, dub, and Tokyo’s vibrant sound.
