About this Event

Experience the private world of Zelda Fitzgerald through the very medium she used to navigate her life: the written word. This immersive evening begins with a public performance and concludes with a private act of creation, tracing the line between Zelda’s artistic legacy and our own personal narratives.

Part I: The Museum Performance (5:00 PM – 6:00 PM)

We gather at the Asheville Art Museum for a breathtaking performance by Ayla Claypool. In the quiet presence of Zelda’s original painting, Japanese Magnolias, Ayla will bring Zelda’s voice to life, reading curated selections from her intimate and often heartbreaking correspondence. Experience the raw emotion of her prose in the presence of her visual art—a rare moment where her two greatest creative outlets converge.

Part II: The Promenade & The Writing Salon (6:00 PM – 8:30 PM)

Following the reading, we invite guests on a short, reflective walk back to Zelda Dearest. Here, the evening transitions from observation to participation with "Letters to My Dearest."

Guided by Tikva Kingrea, you will be invited to step away from the digital world and reclaim the slow, intentional art of the handwritten note. Whether writing to your own "Scott," a distant loved one, or a future version of yourself, you will be provided with the tools and prompts to create your personal correspondence.

The Evening Itinerary

  • 5:00 PM | The Reading: Meet at the Asheville Art Museum (Japanese Magnolias).
  • 6:00 PM | The Promenade: A leisurely return to the Zelda Dearest property.
  • 6:30 PM | The Writing Salon: Letter-writing workshop with Tikva in our garden or parlor.
  • 8:30 PM | The Social Hour: A final toast to the "lost art" of correspondence.

"I've always believed in the magic of the written word—that it can bridge any distance and heal any heart." — Zelda Fitzgerald
