About this Event

Join us for a bookmaking workshop with 2025 PMRCAA Resident Artist Mallory Craig!

Date: March 15th

Time: 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Location: Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture

We are excited to welcome 2025 PMRCAA Artist and Therapeutic Horticulturalist, Mallory Craig, for this unique workshop where participants will learn about different medicinal plants and start their own kitchen"Materia Medica"! Participants will learn simple book-binding techniques and choose one of the plants growing at Pine Meadow to fill out their first materia medica page.

Workshop Highlights:

Food, Pharma, and Flora: Participants will be led by Mallory in discovering the medicinal properties of different foods and plants. Attendees will be invited to unearth personal stories and connections to these plants and engage with guiding questions and circle discussions.

Art and Science Collaboration: Using simple book-binding techniques, participants will create their own Materia Medica with their newfound knowledge, and have the opportunity to pick and portray one plant and it's medicinal properties. They will work with plant pigments as watercolor and practice slow calligraphy for an art object that supports culinary and medicinal knowledge of the plants we eat.

By the end of the session, each participant will have created a unique and informative resource that reflects their personal journey with the plants we eat.

All materials are provided.
