About this Event
So what is Bowl-vember all about?
Class description
This is a casual bowling session led by Jon to raise awareness of male mental health in the month of November. This session is suitable for anyone of all levels of experience / ability in bowling, taking place at the newest world-class bowling alley in Hong Kong. Everyone is welcome to join!
Jon will give a quick briefing on bowling basics and etiquette at the beginning of the session, after which you will be free to bowl and socialise with other participants. For the more adventurous, Jon will also be on hand to give tips on how to hook (“spin”) the ball down the lane.
Please note we will be hosting this session at Top Bowl Tenpin Bowling, Kai Tak Sports Park, Kai Tak, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Instructions to the exact location will be sent through email closer to the event date. We suggest you arrive 5-10 minutes earlier.
We aim to make fitness for mental health accessible in Hong Kong. That’s why we offer places in our classes for free for those experiencing financial hardship.
Each ticket will include 2 hours of bowling time, shoe rental and bowling tips from Jon. All donations go to covering the rental cost and will help ‘pay it forward.’ This will provide spaces in our movement classes and peer support groups for someone facing financial hardship. We offer places in our classes for free for those experiencing financial hardship - please email [email protected] for further instructions on how to apply for a spot.
We want everyone to have access to the support they need, regardless of their identity or circumstance.
So who are we?
Move Partners
Taking part in physical activity can improve mental health in many ways; better sleep, happier moods, managing stress, anxiety, and intrusive thoughts, improved self-esteem, and connection to the community, to name a few.
Move Partners is a collaborative project between The New Normal Charity and organisations, professionals, and athletes. We aim to reinforce the connection and the importance of moving to help support our mental health.
Jonathan (Jon) Fan
Jon (he/him) is a mental health advocate, volunteer, and Move Partner for TNN Hong Kong. As a bowling enthusiast (but by no means an expert), Jon strives to share his passion for bowling as not only a target sport that engages both the body and the mind, but also an occasion for people from different walks of life to socialise whilst trying to knock down as many pins as possible.
