Tiramisu and tough talks is a new idea, one I've never actually done before, so Ill be learning alongside everyone what it actually looks like. The vision I'm holding is living room talks with your queer aunties. One is giving a queer haircut, while another is dishing tiramisu, and a group gathered around a table making themselves available. If it sounds ambiguous, it's because it follows my Montessori interpretation of"freedom within limits" - our limit is the topic of LGBTQ+, but the questions, learning, curiosity within that topic can look however we want it to look.
The only requirement is that it's intentional and respectful. Because the bulk of our growth as people and as a community comes from these moments of being uncomfortable. Sitting with newness.
I've found that most things in life can be a little less uncomfortable when eating tiramisu. And just like information, I won't be keeping the tiramisu or the recipe to myself.
This idea has been brewing for a while and PRide in the Ridge gives the neighborhood platform it's built on. I hope this is the first of many Tiramisu and Tough Talks to came out of my own tough talks - past and current. Disordered eating, authentic Montessori, parenting out of generational trauma, ethical AL. And sharing resources - the people, the books, the social media accounts - that have helped me build a village of information.
