About this Event
Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR) 5-day workshop with Michelle Booth, LCSW & Ragnhild Malnati, LCSW

What is Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR)? TIR is now taught in a five day format to provide ample opportunity to watch demos, practice techniques, and get questions answered. It can be practiced immediately afterward to provide others with a rapid and sometimes dramatic improvement in posttraumatic stress. TIR is a highly structured yet person-centered approach that can be learned and applied by mental health professionals and lay persons. It is also an effective tool for peer-to-peer support for first responders, crisis specialists, peer recovery and medical staff.

28 CE hours: This training was approved by the [USA] National Association of Social Workers, provider #886415259, and by NAADAC, provider #860.

The continuing education credits for this TIR-related program may also be submitted to the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists towards certification and re-certificating as a Trauma Specialist, a Trauma Responder, and a Trauma Service Specialist.

Participants in all professional disciplines will be provided with documentation of 28 credit hours for use in securing CE credits from their respective licensure boards and/or professional associations.

Prerequisite: None (Professional Licensing is not required) Time: 5 days

About the Workshop:

The TIR workshop offers a novel perspective on trauma and shows TIR to be theoretically-grounded, practical and observable by personal experience. The workshop covers the nature of trauma, the impact of traumatic memories on present functioning, and the Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR) technique. The theoretical basis of TIR is person-centered and avoids the use of psychiatric language, diagnostic labeling and unnecessary technical terminology. This allows even lay people to bring relief, support and personal growth to those whose lives are negatively impacted by present or past life stress or trauma.

Three tools are taught and practiced by students during the workshop, all which resolve emotional charge contained in negatively experienced events in a brief amount of time:

Basic TIR for known traumatic incidents.

Thematic TIR for unknown incidents that create unwanted automatic responses, such as feelings of panic, dread, rage and avoidance.

Unblocking for providing emotional relief and valuable insight with troubling relationships, thoughts and situations.

The TIR Workshop presents a new paradigm of safety and effectiveness for helping others. Upon completing this training, a practitioner can expect to get good results applying what has been learned. It is recommended that the newly-trained practitioner do a post–workshop internship to quickly raise their level of skill and confidence. Internships are available for on-line students and on-going individual and group supervision is offered post training. Supervision toward certification in TIR is available with Michelle Booth.

Workshop Learning Objectives:

Through supervised activities students will learn:

  • the theory of the traumatic network;
  • the nature and consequences of traumatic incidents;
  • the theory and practice of Traumatic Incident Reduction and Unblocking;
  • how to apply Traumatic Incident Reduction and Unblocking to a successful result.

Also learn:

  • How to assess the client's readiness for trauma resolution work;
  • How to use these structured, directive techniques in a client-centered way;
  • How re-activation (triggering) affects clients' everyday lives;
  • Effective communication exercises to increase rapport with clients.

This workshop will give you the knowledge, skills, and experience to take people affected by symptoms of trauma to a positive outcome, often in a single session. This workshop is appropriate for all levels of practicing social workers, psychologists, therapists, counselors, clergy, and critical incident stress debriefers. It is also effectively being used in peer to peer settings for individuals in recovery or for staff to help a colleague to resolve the charge of trauma encountered at work.

Our Refund Policy: If you choose to cancel your registration you will be given a full refund less a $75 processing fee up to 14 days before the start date of the workshop. Participants wishing to cancel their registration after this time waive the right to a refund, but will be issued full credit toward a future workshop date.
