Akae Beka or Vaughn Benjamin was a prolific and enigmatic figure in the world of reggae music. He was the lead singer and lyricist for the reggae band Midnite, which he co-founded with his brother Ron Benjamin in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, in the late 1980s. Benjamin's musical universe was characterized by profound spiritual depth, intricate wordplay, and a unique blend of reggae, dub, roots, and other musical influences.
Benjamin's lyrics were deeply philosophical, drawing on Rastafarian beliefs, African spirituality, and social commentary.
