About this Event
Join Gemma Barnett, a Leeds based multidisciplinary artist, for a hands-on kinetic mobile making workshop inspired by Alexander Calder’s asymmetrical mobiles. Unlike Calder’s abstract approach our hanging mobiles will showcase both tin embossed swallows & swifts, marking the arrival of these magnificent birds back to the UK after a long winter abroad.
Firstly, we will make our spring birds using tin embossing techniques. After a short break we will then construct our asymmetrical hanging mobiles using craft wire & a range of hand held tools.
Like a lot of Calder’s mobiles, our constructions will be air or touch propelled - couple that with Calder’s asymmetrical approach & we will create unique sculptural pieces that balance gracefully yet move with an element of chance.
Bird templates & all other materials provided
We will be using gold coloured aluminum sheets & craft wire
