Description of event:
We'll show you the neighborhood's hidden artworks, how this artist community bubbled up in a neighborhood that the city had largely forgotten, and how even the high-end designer shops that line the street today give a nod to the artistic past of the neighborhood.
Along the way, you'll discover an astonishing sculpture hidden in plain sight and the secrets of New York's old cast iron buildings. You'll peruse the shelves of the same industrial supply store where artists found their inspiration and take an elevator up to a bohemian artist's loft that now only exists to sell expensive designer goods. You'll even see New York City's oldest brothels and visit some of its oldest bars. Walk with us through a neighborhood and era that changed Downtown culture, the city itself -- and even the question of "what is art?"
A note on headphones:
Wireless headphones are not supported. We will supply wired headphones if you do not have any. You are welcome to bring your own wired headphones or an adapter for wireless earbuds (bluetooth is not supported on the audio devices).
Disclaimer: This is not a live tour but could instead be described as walking around in a movie. You are renting audio equipment for a group experience. A guide will accompany you for the duration of the experience to guide you through this location-based audio walk.
