Tim Low’s reports, books, articles and talks have contributed to ecological thought and environmental policy in Australia and more widely. Written for a general audience, his books have attracted broad academic interest and serve as recommended reading in many university courses.
He is best known for his groundbreaking books Feral Future and Where Song Began: Australia’s Birds and How They Changed the World, which have been praised both nationally and internationally. Where Song Began won several prizes, including the Australian Book Industry Award prize for General Non-fiction Book of the Year in 2015 and the Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards People’s Choice Award for most popular book in 2015. Feral Future, published in 1999, transformed Australians’ understanding of invasive species in Australia and was a catalyst for the formation of the Invasive Species Council, of which Tim was a co-founder.
Tim was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2024 for significant service to conservation, and to environmental education and awareness.

Peter Cosier AM is at the forefront of land and water management across Australia.
As a co-founder and former director of the Wentworth Group of Concerned Scientists he has been influential nationally and internationally in water reform, landscape conservation, and developments in carbon farming and environmental accounting. He is currently Chair of Accounting for Nature Ltd, a not-for-profit company established in 2018 to offer affordable, transparent and verifiable ways to measure the state of nature on farms, indigenous land, and private conservation reserves.

Gregg Borschmann is one of Australia’s most experienced journalists, writers and oral historians specialising on the environment. Gregg left ABC Radio National in August 2020 after two decades as a producer/reporter and senior producer on RN Breakfast with Fran Kelly and Hamish Macdonald. He continues his work as a consultant oral history interviewer for the National Library of Australia.
Gregg started his career in print on The Age newspaper in Melbourne in 1974. In the 1980s he spent the best part of a decade reporting Australia ‘from the back blocks’ for The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Courier Mail and various specialist magazines. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, he worked as a media advisor in two Hawke Labor Governments.
Since the early 1990s, Gregg has recorded three major oral history collections for the National Library of Australia on Australia’s forests, environmental history and the Great Barrier Reef. He’s currently recording a fourth collection for the NLA on the koala, and also writing a book about koalas.

About the Lyrebird Festival:
The Lyrebird Festival returns in 2024, from Thursday the 14th to Sunday the 17th of November, celebrating the spectacular Megalong Valley with music, art, food & wine, talks & nature walks. Founded and directed by the Bowerbird Collective, and supported by Lot 101, this event brings together some of Australia's finest musicians for a series of spellbinding concerts.
An iconic Australian species, and an evolutionary marvel, the lyrebird represents all that is sacred in the bush. They can be heard in the Megalong Valley imitating the calls of hundreds of other species, as well as producing their own thrilling sounds.
The Lyrebird Festival brings together art, science and conservation, and includes local culinary delights, intimate, world-class performances and an installation by internationally renowned artist Janet Laurence.
All events have been scheduled to allow for plenty of time moving between each location. All concerts and other events can be booked separately, or together with a festival pass. Pricing includes a 'Pay what you can' option.
