Instructors - Kendrick Goss
Kendrick is a maker and welder of the “enthusiastic amateur” variety, having completed and instructed courses at Artisan’s Asylum and elsewhere focused on welding, blacksmithing, and fabrication. Kendrick has been welding in steel, aluminum, and stainless steel since 2015 at the Asylum and his home workshop, with a focus on furniture, cookware, and artwork.
Class Description
The goal of this 2 session class is to take your welding ‘to the next level.' Now that you know how to attach metal pieces together with a TIG torch, we will focus on planning a project, making a cut list, preparing the metal, order of assembly, tacking & welding, troubleshooting, and how to gracefully correct (or hide) mistakes.
This 19” tall “sitting stool” will be assembled from 4 legs of 1 inch square tubing (capped with “weld feet” and leverers), with smaller cross members and an angle iron frame on top. For a seat, I have used wood, metal, and upholstery - we will discuss options.
We will practice planning, measuring, and cutting precise (enough) pieces and use a wooden jig to hold them in place square and straight for welding. The principles/methods/short-cuts covered in this class can be applied to projects of your own design going forward.
Material Fee
The materials fee for this class is $75. This is separate from the ticket price and is to reimburse the instructor for any tools or materials used in this class. This will be paid once, directly to the instructor at the start of the first class meeting. This instructor accepts payments through Cash or Venmo.
