About this Event
Beyond the iconic Bridge lies a history of grit, engineering, and wartime heroism. The Naval Historical Society of Australia invites you on an exclusive three-hour maritime journey into the heart of the Royal Australian Navy’s legacy.
From the 1788 arrival to the frantic dockyards of WWII, discover the "West Harbour" secrets that shaped Sydney:
- Cockatoo Island: Where 38 ships were born and 31 battle-scarred warships were brought back to life during the height of the Pacific War.
- Spectacle Island: A rare chance to view the historic Armament Depot—once home to 1,000 tons of high explosives—before its future under government sale changes forever.
- Snapper Island: The training ground where generations of young Sea Cadets began their journey into the RAN.
- HMAS Waterhen: Mine warfare base. Home of smaller Navy ships.
The Experience Includes:
- Expert Commentary: Our volunteer historians bring the past to life.
- Visual History: Onboard TV displays featuring archival photos and data.
- Take-Home Heritage: A complimentary souvenir booklet packed with historical insights and imagery.
The Vessel: MV Bennelong
There is no better way to experience history than aboard the MV Bennelong, a charming 80-foot wooden vessel that echoes the craftsmanship of a bygone era. Relax on her decks and enjoy a delicious morning tea as we glide past Sydney’s most storied naval landmarks.
