- Miljenko “Mike” Grgich was the legendary Croatian-American winemaker who co-founded Grgich Hills Estate in 1977 after his 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay won the 1976 "Judgment of Paris," putting Napa Valley on the map. His nephew, Ivo Jeramaz, now leads winemaking, continuing a legacy of sustainable, 100% estate-grown, Regenerative Organic Certified wines. Mike enjoyed a full & 100 years of fruitful life, passing away in 2023, and his daughter Violet continues his tradition of hospitality, overseeing operations & marketing.
- 100% Estate-Grown Fruit: Unlike many large wineries, Grgich Hills produces its wines exclusively from grapes grown on its own properties. This total control over the vineyard allows for consistent quality and meticulous attention to detail from the soil to the bottle
- Minimalist Winemaking Style: The estate follows a "do as little as possible" philosophy in the cellar, relying on indigenous yeast for fermentation rather than commercial strains, avoids additives and intent on allowing natural character of the grapes to shine
- Old Vine Excellence: The winery is home to some of the oldest vines in Napa Valley, including the Paradise Block, which features Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted in 1959. These deep-rooted "Old Vines" produce complex, concentrated fruit that forms the basis for their most prestigious and highly-rated Legacy selections
Ivo has four decades in Napa's Wine business, is well known throughout the valley, maintaining Mike's intensity and love for their life's work with Grgich Hills and engaging with those growing up as they did in the vineyards, cellars and tasting room continually improving & learning! A great opportunity to learn more how Napa Valley became the powerhouse it is and how Grgich Hills was part & parcel of some of its acclaim.
