About the artist:
Philippe Clément is a Miami born, self-taught guitarist. He began playing at the age of 14. In the span of two years, he began to make strides. His talent on the guitar was noticeable. At a young age, he earned multiple recognitions and was enrolled in various summer music workshops. He attended The Brubeck Institute in California, Skidmore Jazz Institute, and the Summer Jazz Academy at Bard College. The institutes and conservatories often featured several public performances including the members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. His participation at the summer Conservatories were transformative in his jazz education as he honed his craft through rigorous performances with diverse, talented musicians, and artists from around the world.
In 2017, Philippe received a Merit Young Arts prize in Jazz Guitar Performance. At 18, he was recognized by the Manhattan School of Music and accepted a full scholarship to pursue his Jazz studies. As an undergraduate songwriter under the tutelage of leading faculty member Christopher Rosenberg and Kendrick Scott, Philippe composed and performed a song called “Matters” with a group called The Ritual. In May 2021, the work on this original composition and performance was selected by Downbeat Magazine. In 2022, he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Manhattan School of Music.
In addition to his work as a guitarist, composer, and bandleader, Philippe Clément is an active sideman and educator. He performs various styles of music and teaches in multiple New York City locations. Philippe has participated in various music events during the Winter Jazz Fest. As a rising artist, Philippe performs with notable producers, composers, and drummers such as Gengis Don, Matthew Jamal, Reggae artist Iba Mahr, including Ayanna Nicole Thomas, a rising vocalist, and collaborates with many other acclaimed artists.
