Throwback Night with Insect Surfers and The Beatnik Flies

We are excited to have two fabulous reunion shows taking place on the Social Hall stage:

Insect Surfers was born in Bethesda in1979 and soon became a staple on the DC music scene, opening for bands like Bad Brains, Slickee Boys, the B52s, Joan Jett, and Iggy Pop, just to name a few. A new version of the band still grooves on the California coast, but founding member David Arnson is returning home to revive the original east coast version of the band.

The Beatnik Flies, established in 1978, were also part of DC's underground music scene. Their psychedelic garage sound harkens back to earlier times. Musical influences include guitar hero Link Wray, the Beatles, Iron Butterfly... anything that caught their fancy. "We played original songs acoustic lyrics. We were too raucous for the folk clubs and the rock clubs laughed at us... but when the punk/new wave scene came along, we were finally accepted." It's been over 10 years since 'The Flies' last gig.

Special guest Colonel Josh Arnson and Paisley Tonk will open up the night with a bit of classick honky tonk rock. (Yes, it's all in the family - Josh also did a stint with the Insect Surfers, back in the day.)

TICKETS: $15 in advance /$20 at the door

TIME: Food truck 6-8 pm // EXTRA EARLY SHOW Doors open at 6:45 pm // Music starts at 7:15 pm

FOOD TRUCK: Rocklands BBQ food truck will be at the curb 6 - 8 pm; Rocklands will be dishing up delicious bbq and also has Right Proper Brewing Co. beer. Plenty of picnic tables outside for dining.

DRINK: You are welcome to bring your own drinks and coolers. Beer also available from Rocklands food truck. The Hub operates a concession stand, as well. Many options!

TRANSPORTATION/P ARKING: Easy free street parking. One block from the D6 bus stop on MacArthur Blvd NW.
