Originally from Ontario, TheFunkySlab has been calling Calgary his home since 2010. From a very early age, his older brother introduced him to a wide range of music genres that has influenced him greatly. Everything from funk, soul, motown and hip-hop to classic rock, punk, reggae and 90s electronic music. Coming from a family of musicians, he began his musical journey at a young age playing piano but found his true passion playing the bass. This led him to play in several different bands, performing live shows and recording a few EP's along the way in his early adult life. He attended his first music festival in 2012 which sparked his interest to one day start DJing. Since then, he has been an avid festival goer with a heavy involvement in the Calgary electronic music scene. In 2018, he took the plunge and finally got behind the decks and started playing at house parties or wherever the opportunity presented itself. With the guidance and mentorship of his good friends Freddy J, Magic&Johnson, Bass Panda, Lucy Lynx and Father Funk, this self taught DJ is eager to fill the dance floor with his charismatic personality and musical talents.
