About this Event
This exhibition explores a layered process of digital construction and painterly resolution.
Each collaborative work begins as a digitally manipulated image created by Fuqua or Shaw. In some cases, the image moves through both artists, accumulating additional layers of transformation. In others, it moves directly to its final stage.
Every piece is ultimately resolved through Turner’s painting.
This structure creates a tension between digital and physical processes, where images are built, altered, and reinterpreted before being translated into paint. Each stage leaves a visible trace, resulting in works that carry multiple authors while resisting a single point of control.
Alongside the collaborative works, individual pieces from each artist establish their distinct practices, grounding the viewer before those boundaries are intentionally crossed.
This is not about seamless collaboration. It is about layered authorship, transformation, and the shift from digital image to physical object.
________
Todd Fuqua is an Indianapolis-based photographic artist whose work constructs layered digital images that explore identity, power, and perception. Combining portraiture with digital manipulation, they create visually charged compositions that challenge fixed narratives and invite reinterpretation. Their practice centers on the point of origin, producing images that function not as final works, but as starting frameworks designed for transformation, disruption, and collaboration.
Leslie Keith Shaw is a digital photographic artist based in Indianapolis, Indiana, with more than 20 years of experience working across photography, scanography, and digital manipulation. His work transforms and expands existing imagery through layering, texture, and distortion, revealing depth within the overlooked. Acting as both interpreter and disruptor, Shaw reworks digital compositions into more complex visual fields, extending their meaning and preparing them for their final evolution beyond the screen.
Contonnia Turner Jr. is an abstract and surrealist painter based in Indianapolis, Indiana. His work translates layered imagery into bold, expressive paintings defined by color, movement, and emotional intensity. Through painterly intervention, he resolves digitally constructed compositions into physical form, where control and spontaneity collide. Turner’s practice transforms accumulated visual information into final works that carry the energy, tension, and presence of every stage before it.
