The Friends of Wausau Historic Landmarks, in coordination with Citizens for Clean Wausau, will host a special tour of the Thomas Street Neighborhood on Friday, June 5, at 6:00 pm. This special tour, brought back by popular demand, not only looks at the architecture and history of the area, but includes information about the continuing environmental impact of the industries that once populated and still populate the area. The tour explores the Thomas Street area and its long history as a neighborhood with residential-lined streets, many small businesses, as well as many large industries such as Connor Industries, Crestline Windows (the Wauleco site), and 3M. It also includes the scientific data, news, and stories related to the environmental legacies and impacts left by the large industries over the years.
This tour will be led by Carl Martens of Friends of Wausau Historic Landmarks, with special guest, founding member and spokesperson for Citizens for a Clean Wausau, Tom Kilian.
Remember to dress for the weather and be sure to wear good walking shoes as there will be some uneven surfaces. Please note that this tour may be longer than typical tours by Friends of Wausau Historic Landmarks.
The event is free and open to all ages, and no reservations are required.
