Join this beginner friendly workshop on Ballroomin'! A flashy style of partner dancing done to gorgeous jazz blues music!
About this Event

Thistle Blues Dancing presents a Saturday of line of dance Ballroomin' blues dance classes at St Columba's by the Castle taught by Emily and Ewan!
COURSE CONTENT - Ballroomin' is a style of blues dances done in Black American ballrooms and dance halls in the United States alongside jazz blues / swing music, characterised by travelling, rhythmic steps and often featuring flashy moves like turns and dips. Examples include The Strut, The Stride, Peabody, Swing Walk, Savoy Walk, 1 Step / 2 Step and more! Often these dances use a convention called "line of dance", which allows dancers to travel in a circle around the dancefloor, whilst others may choose to do other jazz dances such as Slow Drag or Lindy Hop in the middle of the room.
In this workshop rather than learning specific Ballroomin' dances, we will instead work on the core skills and techniques they have in common. Focusing on how to effortlessly glide around the room with a partner, executing loads of cool and fun dynamic moves!
Suitable for beginners although some of the content may be challenging!
KEY INFO - There will be 4 hours of classes with an hour lunch break half way through the day. There are sliding scale prices to cover costs but also make the workshop accessible.
£30 regular price, £20 concession for students or those on low income, £45 for patrons who are happy to pay extra to cover concessions. Register for the workshop by buying an eventbrite ticket.
IN CLASS - Everyone will have a chance to dance both lead and follow roles in the workshop with regular partner switching.
Bring water and wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes. Dancing in smooth soled shoes is recommended so that you can easily spin and slide without risking damage to your knees. Blues as a dance style, often uses a close embrace as the main connection in partnership. Consent will be prioritised at all times. Everyone has the right to say no to a dance and that right must be respected.
