Join the BBHC every month for educational programs for homeschool students! Each month we focus on a different topic related to the history of the Battle of the Monongahela and the French and Indian War. Topics can include historical events, the Indigenous people of the region, the daily lives of 18th century colonial men and women in North America, archaeology, and more!November’s program will focus on Logstown—one of the most important native villages in Western Pennsylvania at the time of the French and Indian War. A multi-cultural Native American village, trade post, and meeting place, Logstown was established by the Shawnee people in the area in 1725. Over the next thirty years, it would become home to members of the Cayuga, Lenni-Lenape, Seneca, and others as they traveled through the region or established a permanent living space at the site. Logstown also was a place of negotiation and diplomacy for Native people, French, and British colonial figureheads.
We will discuss historical figures who visited Logstown, the trade and diplomacy between the Indigenous people and Europeans that took place there, and the village’s role in the westward expansion of the colonies and, eventually, the United States of America.
