Join us and celebrate Black History Month at COMU! This month's event will include a special lecture by Tony-nominated songwriter Dr. Masi Asare, Associate Professor of Theatre and Performance Studies at Northwestern University, speaking on the legacy of Ma Rainey. Asare's most recent book, Blues Mamas and Broadway Belters: Black Women, Voice, and the Musical Stage, published by Duke University Press, discusses Ma Rainey's continuing influence on contemporary singing practice.
