Want to create your very own chess set and test your strategic skills against other art enthusiasts? Visit the Utah Museum of Fine Arts in Salt Lake City for a free museum day with the whole family! Admission to the UMFA is free every third Saturday of the month, and there is always an art-making activity for the whole family.Chess is one of the oldest games in the world. Find inspiration in the games on view in ACME Lab: The Art of Play. You can make your own one-of-a-kind chess set by drawing a chessboard and designing a set using found objects. Once your masterpiece is complete, set up your board in the Great Hall and test your strategic skills in a rousing game of chess, or discover how movie magic comes to life through stop-motion animation!
This month the UMFA is collaborating with the Utah Film Center and their Tumbleweeds Film Festival. Explore how everyday objects (like your chess set) can become animated characters with just a camera and your imagination! Utah Film Center will provide devices, supplies, and support to help you make your own stop-motion animation!
