After Relational Aesthetics: Music, Mediation, and the Social — Implications for “Early Music” Research.Keynote and workshop by Georgina Born, Professor of Anthropology and Music, University College London.
Moderated by Marlies De Munck, Doctor Assistent, Department of Philosophy, UAntwerpen.
Throughout this keynote and workshop, professor of anthropology and music Georgina Born revisits the legacy of Relational Aesthetics to explore how music can be understood through processes of social mediation. Taking the four planes of mediation as a starting point, she reflects on how these frameworks shape artistic practice, perception, and interaction. Rather than prescribing outcomes, this thinkUP session aims to open a shared space for clarifying concepts such as “mediation", and for collectively imagining their relevance to “early music” research and practice. The emphasis will be on dialogue, inviting participants to consider how these perspectives might generate practical implications within their own artistic (and scholarly) work.
