Join us for a workshop led by Dr Charlotte Gleghorn explaoring textual film analysis and Latin American cinema as collaboration and practice
About this Event

Pensando América Latina a través de su cine

Dr Charlotte Gleghorn, Senior Lecturer in Latin American Film Studies and LLC Director of Research, will be joining us in the ARC this October to share her expertise and engagement with Latin American Cinema. This workshop will be geared towards researchers in the Social Sciences interested in engaging with film methodologies, collaborative practice, and public engagement. The workshop will engage with Dr Gleghorn's experience engaging with film projects in the following capacities:

  • Latin American cinemas as text (textual film analysis);
  • Latin American cinema as collaboration (changing methodologies; interviews; film archives; programming);
  • Latin American cinema as practice (co-production of film projects)

In the evening, workshop participants are welcome to join us for a film screening of El Rojo Más Puro, directed by Yira Plaza O'Bryne.

The screening willbegin at 18:30, co-hosted by Cinemaattic at Kelvinhall Cinema. More information about the screenign and a synopsis can be found below. Workshop attendants are enourage to come along to take part in a round table discussion and workshop debrief.

Info: 73 minutes. Luis Plaza, a union leader from the 70s, survived the eradication of his polical party. Following his last assasination attempt in 2014, his daughter Yira, a film director, discovers a lonely man in need of his family. After questioning whether it was worth risking his life for his political convictions, she uncovers the man the man behind the slogans. // Luis Plaza, un líder sindical de 70 años, sobrevivió al exterminio de su partido político. Después del último atentado del que fue víctima en 2014, Yira, su hija y directora, convive con él y descubre un ser que lucha en solitario y que necesita a su familia. Tras preguntarse si ha valido la pena poner la vida en riesgo por las convicciones políticas, encuentra al hombre que hay detrás de las consignas.
