About this Event
This special edition of Think Trap Thursdays™ is a 3-part gardening series centered on getting back to the earth, learning the basics, and reconnecting with ways of sustaining ourselves that have been disrupted across generations. The series takes place from 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM Central on Thursday, April 16, 23, and 30. Registration covers all three sessions.
Led by gardener, community advocate, and sustainability educator Michelle Gilmore, the series is designed for beginners and anyone interested in growing their own food. Michelle brings over a decade of experience growing flowers, herbs, and produce, with a focus on sustainability, self-sufficiency, and community-based education.
As part of the experience, ® will offer a brief talk on the history and significance of farming and gardening within Black communities.
Across three weeks, participants will move from foundational knowledge into hands-on work. The first session introduces key gardening concepts. Participants will then receive a kit and guided at-home activities to complete between sessions, building toward a final, in-person working session.
This is a small, cohort-based experience, with each session building on the last.
Each participant will receive a Left on Read-selected gardening book ($30 value) intended to support learning during and beyond the series and a certificate of completion at the final session.
Additional gardening workshops may be offered in the future for those interested in continuing to build their skills.
