About this Event
Interested in folklore retellings, queer stories and/or Scottish fantasy? Come along to hear local author Elisabeth Flett read extracts from her new book No Such Thing As Kelpies and talk about her inspirations behind the novel.
A 2021 graduate from the Elphinstone Institute MLitt course in Scottish Ethnology and Folklore, Flett's work spans fiction, theatre, poetry and song, and Kelpies is her latest exploration into the world of queer folkloristics.
A collection of interconnecting short stories, No Such Thing As Kelpies celebrates classic Scottish beasties such as kelpies, selkies and brownies, and brings these tales and tropes into the modern Scottish world. It's the perfect read for fans of contemporary fantasy series such as Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers of London!
There will be a Q&A, so feel free to come along with a few questions in hand about Scottish folklore, writing LGBTQ+ fairy tales, or self-publishing in general.
