An exhibition of new work by Jo Kennedy, Carol Meese and Jeannie Weissglass, three artists with distinct artistic practices, opens Thursday November 4, 6-9 p.m. at the Corporate Museum and Frame Gallery with an artists' reception. The exhibit runs through November 20. Kennedy began painting after retiring as Director of the Visual Arts Center of Richmond. She is interested in patterns, textures and overlays that enhance the forms she paints. Her new work combines printed forms and rich color. Born in Richmond, Kennedy earned master degrees at both Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Richmond.
Meese has focused on painting since retiring from Richmond public schools where she taught for 32 years. Her approach has evolved from figurative to landscape to abstraction. Meese exhibits worldwide and is known for the delicacy of color and form in her minimalistic work in acrylic, textiles and ceramics. A Northern Virginia native, she graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in clinical psychology.
Weissglass energizes her expressionistic depictions of human figures, birds, flowers and everyday objects through bold color and brushwork. Her work has been widely exhibited in the U.S. and abroad. A resident of the East Village with a studio in Brooklyn, her education spans the University of Michigan, L’Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Nice, France and the New York Studio School.
The three-women show, Theme and Variations, is curated by Geraldine Duskin, the former director of Ghostprint Gallery.
The Corporate and Museum Frame Gallery is located at 301 West Broad St. in Richmond.
