An opportunity to learn about, and connect with other local changemakers working within the field of Social Impact Investment.
About this Event

Three local changemakers will be presenting on the work that they and their organizations are doing. Each will present for 10 minutes, and then there will be three breakout discussion groups based on a prompt from each presenter. This event is a great way to learn more about what other nonprofits and social enterprises are doing, as well as connect with the community for collaboration.



Presenters

Paul Lacerte of Raven Indigenous Capital Partners on "Decolonizing the Investment Process."

Paul is a co-founder and Chief Purpose Officer for Raven Indigenous Capital Partners, an Indigenous owned impact investing firm operating in Canada and the US. He is also the co-Founder of the Moose Hide Campaign which works to end violence against women, children, and all those along the gender continuum. He is a practicing magician and a sub-average hockey player

Raven Indigenous Capital Partners is an early mover in the Indigenous impact investing space. Raven provides patient, flexible, culturally informed capital to Indigenous entrepreneurs across Turtle Island. Raven has a target of 50% of capital to be invested with Indigenous women owned businesses.

Kristi Fairholm -Mader of Thrive Impact Fund on "Investing Locally, Investing for Impact."

Kristi Fairholm Mader (KFM) has always worked in the social impact sector. After 10 years as a youth worker, she returned to school to complete a business degree, with a focus on social enterprise. Kristi founded and supported several employment social enterprises, and was Director of Social Enterprise for Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network. In 2014, Kristi co-founded Scale Collaborative to support growing a thriving social change sector. Within Scale’s family of organizations, KFM is the Managing Director of Thrive Impact Fund and Scale Institute Society.

Thrive Impact Fund is an impact investment fund which invests and supports non-profit, co-operative, and for-profit social enterprises in British Columbia that generate positive social, environmental, or cultural benefits.

Emily Mercy of Goparity on "Impact Finance for Everyday Life."

Emily Mercy is the co-founder and Managing Director of Goparity Canada. She is an advocate for social finance and climate justice and is committed to empowering individuals to create positive change with their investments. Her journey towards reshaping Canada's financial landscape reflects a deep-seated belief that we can harness the power of money to protect the earth while building a just and sustainable world for all.

Goparity is an impact finance and investment platform that allows people and companies to use their money for good by investing in sustainable development projects across Canada.



Food and Beverage

Guests are expected to bring their own food - tables provided for eating. There will, however, be complimentary tea and coffee.


Venue Instructions

theDock - Centre For Social Impact is located on the third floor of 722 Cormorant Street, across the street from Victoria City Hall. To enter the building, simply press the wheelchair access button to the right of the glass sliding doors and then walk through the ground floor entrance to theDock. One of our splendid volunteers or staff will show you to the event space.

There is 2-hour street parking available in front of the building, as well as two parkades within a few minutes walking of the building.
