Live Q&A with the Playwright, moderated by Zorianna Kit
About this Event
An evening of powerful contemporary Ukrainian theater: this reading brings to life the works of Alina Sarnatska—a veteran, former frontline combat medic, and one of the most compelling new voices in Ukrainian drama.
Audience members will experience Military Mom and Balance, two deeply personal plays shaped by war, service, motherhood, memory, and survival. Both works offer an unfiltered look at the emotional realities of military life and the difficult space between the battlefield and the civilian world.
Military Mom is a story of choice, pain, resilience, and humanity in wartime. At its center is a combat medic who saves others every day while sacrificing the most intimate part of her own life: raising her child. In this world, trenches become home, explosions become routine, and humor becomes a form of survival.
Balance follows a woman veteran trying to make sense of war and preserve herself in a world where everything seems broken. It is a searching, intimate work about trauma, memory, and holding on to one’s humanity.
The reading will be followed by a live Q&A with Alina Sarnatska, moderated by Zorianna Kit.
The plays were created as part of the “Theatre of Veterans” project, a joint initiative of TRO Media and the Playwrights’ Theatre. All proceeds go directly toward medical supplies for Ukrainian field medics, purchased and delivered by Leleka Foundation.
