Writing on the Wall are the first and only creative partner of Enterprise Hub, who can offer you free business start-up advice. As part of The Writer's Bloc, Enterprise Hub presents Patrice Lawrence in conversation about diversity in publishing.
Is 'diversity' really an issue in publishing? Since 2015, I have written eight books, a picture book and many short stories for several publishers, big and small. I've also judged many creative writing and book awards including the Scottish Book Trust's Emerging Writers Award and the Costa Book Award. This, plus conversations with other writers and industry professionals has given me a detailed insight into the current conversations and progress with 'diversity'. Looking to get published and work in the industry? Come. Let's talk.
Patrice Lawrence is an award-winning writer for children, teenagers and adults. Her books include Orangeboy, (shortlisted for the Costa Children's Book Award and winner of the Bookseller YA Prize and Waterstones Prize for Older Children's Fiction), Indigo Donut (winner of Bristol Crimefest YA Prize), Rose, Interrupted and Eight Pieces of Silva (Winner of Woman and Home Teen YA). Patrice worked for more than 20 years in the not-for-profit sector promoting social justice and equality. She is a 2021 Costa Book Awards judge.
This has been made possible with support from The National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund, Liverpool City Region Covid-19 Emergency Funding and The Steve Morgan Foundation.
