About this Event
An immersive workshop designed for true tea enthusiasts; explore 4 of our favorite unique, rare, & artisanal teas. Expand your tea repertoire, learn about the cultural & botanical history of tea, & discover what differentiates the 4 selected teas.
Throughout the session, participants will engage in guided tastings with 4 - 6 oz samples of each of 4 selected teas, highlight the distinct flavors and aromas of each:
- silver needles white tea: composed exclusively of unopened tea buds harvested during the first spring flush with minimal processing;
- genmaicha green tea: combination of bright sencha green tea & roasted brown rice puffs; originally created as a way for the working class to stretch their limited tea supply;
- jasmine green tea pearls: chinese green tea traditionally scented with jasmine blossoms 5 times then hand rolled into delicate pearls; and
- pu-erh tea: full leaves harvested from mature tea trees (often over 100 years old) then fermeneted for 30 - 60 days.
This workshop builds off of the general knowledge covered in The World of Tea: An Introduction, briefly summarizing the botanical, commercial, & geographical histories of the tea plant (Camellia sinensis), diving deeper into the agricultural, preparation, & cultural practices of each of the 4 selected teas.
