Naturopath Julianne Grant presents - The Wisdom Within the Whole - Phytochemical Isolation Vs Plant Synergy
About this Event

Botanical extracts of whole plant parts are nature’s Ph*rm*cy, providing a vast array of chemical constituents that work in synergy to enhance health and mitigate disease. Individual phytochemicals are often identified as the major therapeutic component of a plant and therefore scientifically investigated to provide the research for new medicine development. While these singular constituents may provide therapeutic benefit in specific clinical presentations, they can be associated with issues involving toxicity and safety, reduced absorption capacity, microbiota species reduction, and plant sustainability.

This presentation will cover the research and clinical efficacy behind the use of whole-part botanical extracts versus singular constituents (e.g. Coptis chinensis rhizome Vs berberine), the concept of synergy compared to reductionism, and how we can utilise our critical thinking to apply this knowledge in clinical practice.

Julianne Grant is an experienced clinical naturopath and herbalist with a career in complementary medicine that spans over 25 years. Alongside her clinical practice, she has dedicated the last 14 years of her career in herbal medicine research and education, and has co-authored the herbal medicine text, Phytomedicine Compendium – A Desk Resource for Naturopaths and Herbalists. Julianne is a sought-after speaker and is the co-presenter of two herbal medicine podcasts, Tech Talk with OptimalRx and the Two Herb Nerds podcast.

Julianne is passionate about education, both of her patients and of the naturopathic profession; she is deeply committed to supporting the efficacious, safe and sustainable use of botanical medicine within the complementary medicine field by honouring the wisdom of traditional herbalism while integrating the insights of modern research.

Julianne is a full member of the Naturopaths and Herbalists Association of Australia (NHAA).
