A The White Buffalo az amerikai dalszerző-énekes, Jake Smith művészneve. With his powerful country-folk songs, The White Buffalo can evoke everything we’ve seen in American western films. It’s no surprise that several songs by Jake Smith - the singer-songwriter behind the project - have appeared in films and series such as Sons of Anarchy, This Is Us, and Logan. Now, we’ll also have the chance to immerse ourselves in his emotional country songs on August 30 at Dürer Kert.
The White Buffalo is the stage name of American singer-songwriter Jake Smith. With his graying beard and hair and his deep baritone voice, he is the very embodiment of a country-folk artist: someone who always seems ready to sling a guitar over his shoulder and hit the road. And that’s exactly what he has done throughout his career: he started out playing open mic nights in San Francisco, then in 2002, when one of his songs was requested for a film, he quit his job and moved to Orange County. He toured relentlessly, often driving 1,000 miles between shows, and performed alongside artists such as Ryan Bingham, Xavier Rudd, Jack Johnson, Ziggy Marley, and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.
His singing style is often compared to that of Richie Havens. His music is defined by powerful melodies, intricate lyrics, and a blend of country, rock, folk, and Americana. His voice is incredibly strong, and his songs are deep and emotional. Many of them have been featured in films and series, including Sons of Anarchy, Californication, The Punisher, This Is Us, Shelter, and the Marvel film Logan. His song “Come Join the Murder” - featured in the finale of Sons of Anarchy - debuted at number 9 on Billboard’s Hot Rock chart and reached number 93 on the Hot 100. So far, he has released nine studio albums, the latest in 2024 titled A Freight Train Through the Night. A 10-part documentary series was also made about the recording of his 2015 album Love and the Death of Damnation.
