A Multidisciplinary Performance that Meets the MomentThe Weather People and halfMAD Dance join forces to create Re-Leaf Agency, an evening of original music, movement, text, and video. The immersive piece implores audience members to join forces to navigate these turbulent times. Taking cues from the natural world, creators Cam Millar and Kit Clark encourage attendees to remember our interconnectedness and humanity. By taking the long view of the natural world, the artists rekindle hope in our future.
Under the direction of Cam Millar, The Weather People is a horn-driven, genre-defying live music ensemble made up of trombone, trumpet, vibraphone, and two saxophones. Described as exciting, unpredictable, edgy, and fun, their music reflects influences from jazz to classical to funk. New compositions for Re-Leaf Agency are written from the viewpoint of trees that have witnessed multiple generations of human activity on the land in which they grow.
Under the direction of Kit Clark, halfMAD Dance is a movement art group working in an intimate and improvisational way, with a focus on the natural world. In Re-Leaf Agency, video projections create an immersive environment in which dancers amplify all manner of small and precious flora and fauna, while finding refuge among them. Her work, couched as a training presentation to recruit new members to join the Re-Leaf Agency, is the culmination of several years documenting an area of land on the edge of Maryland’s South Mountain.
