About the man:
Matthew Harman was a man with a strong perception of the interconnectedness of the spiritual and natural worlds of the East Yorkshire moors and Wolds. He had a love and passion for the land, as well as a poetic fascination with people of all ages, which was reflected in his poetry. His story is remarkable for his passionate drive to educate himself and to provide for his wife and seven children, which is intricately expressed in verse. His legacy stands the test of time and is ripe for rediscovery.
His major work is ‘Musella’, 7,000 lines of rhyming poetry in A Wreath of Rhyme (1871).
