About this Event
Dear Community Members,
Our community is currently navigating a period of profound sorrow. As we witness the courageous struggle for freedom in our motherland and the devastating violence being used against its people, many of us are carrying a heavy burden of grief.
In light of these events, IABA DC recognizes that a “Norooz Celebration” does not reflect the current spirit of our diaspora. Instead, we invite you to attend “The Verses That Carry Us: A Night of Shared Reflection & Poetry In Solidarity With the Iranian People,” a reflective space dedicated to solidarity and shared remembrance with the hopes of a new day for the people of Iran.
This will be an informal "open mic" focused on the power of the written and spoken word. We invite you to share:
- A poem (original or a classic from our heritage).
- A personal story or reflection on your connection to our motherland.
- A passage of literature that offers strength in times of crisis.
Our goal is to provide a sanctuary where we can grieve together as a legal community, find inspiration in our shared culture, and reaffirm our commitment to justice and human rights.
Event Details:
- When: Wednesday March 11 at 6pm
- Where: KooKoo’s Restaurant - 3310 14th St NW
- Light appetizers provided and beverages for individual purchase
We understand that the weight of these months has been exhausting. Whether you wish to speak or simply listen with your peers, your presence is a meaningful act of community and solidarity.
In hope,
The IABA DC Board of Directors
