The Ultimate Horsemanship demonstration with Joe Midgley. Joe will take you on a journey across disciplines from foals, through to the elite level. We are excited to run this event at the wonderful Bishop Burton Arena. The event will showcase six horses. Two foals, two Western horses and two Dressage horses all at different stages to show you how the principles of true horsemanship are universal.
With emphasis on developing a positive relationship within your training and performance. Creating a partner that never fails to try their hardest is the number one priority. You will learn to understand feel, timing and the biomechanics of how certain exercises help develop not just your horses mind, but also the body!
The demo will cover both ground and ridden work, with an emphasis on lightness and communication. Everything you will learn will be applicable to your Showjumper, Dressage horse or happy hacker.
The skills demonstrated are key in the rehabilitation of problematic behaviour, and preventing it in the first place!
Foal handling - you will meet Orion (GI Gold star) owned by Amanda Axe and handled by Joe. You'll also meet Nova (GI Wandering star)owned and handled by Alisha Steele! Brother and sister who have just begun their journey in horsemanship. They will be around 10/11 months old at the time of the demo. We aim to show you how correct foal handling will lead to a confident, willing and happy youngster.
Western horses - you will meet Remy (Magnus Rex at Dawn) and Picnic (Gunna Nic Chics) owned by Kirsty Corbitt - both trained by Joe.
Remy has competed at the top level in the UK, winning multiple championships and national titles. Remy was the UK Ranch futurity champion in 2024 and Reserve UK Working rail champion in 2025. Most recently, he was the Sudbrooke Park Versatile Ranch horse Open Champion. He is one of the top western horses in the UK and has been teaching people about horsemanship for the last 6 years. He will demonstrate the lightness and communication we are looking to achieve as our horses develop.
Picnic will have had 6 months of ridden training by the time of the demo, and is Joe's prospect for the AQHA UK futurities later in the year. Her athletic abilities are proving to be very special, and we're excited to demonstrate with her at the very beginning of her first season competing. With both horses Joe will demonstrate how a gentle approach can achieve peak performance, without compromising on relationship.
Dressage horses - You will meet Ziggy (C'est gamine van de sneppe). Joe has been working with Ziggy for over two years now, and has competed at Elementary, but is riding at Medium level. Alisha will demonstrate with her own Misty (Diamond Mist) who is competing at Elementary but starting to school some advanced manoeuvres.
This event proves to be a completely immersive horsemanship experience for everyone to enjoy!
After the demonstration will be a groundwork clinic. Demonstration attendees are welcome to stay for the clinic too.
We're also excited to introduce Alisha Steele in her first public demonstration. Alisha has been working with Joe for a number of years now. She has attended multiple clinics, had private sessions and been Joe's assistant at demos, shows and clinics. Alisha started taking horses in training herself in 2025 but still works with Joe to further her education. She is at the top of a very small list of professionals that Joe recommends sending your horse to.
The event will be presented by the witty, and hilarious Gavin Robertshaw and Alasdair Gerrard!
Bishop Burtons cafe will be open onsite for refreshments!
